Q: What does the new Performer subscription include?
A: The new Performer subscription tier provides students and individual performers with unlimited access to the repertoire library, which includes over 13,200 additional titles as part of our new Digital Sheet Music Library, which became available on May 3rd. Performer subscriptions also include access to all practice features and tools such as the Practice app, Compose notation app and music sharing abilities, Favorites Lists, and Practice Analysis.
Q: What does the new Teacher subscription include?
A: The Teacher subscription continues to provide complete access to the repertoire library, which also includes over 13,200 additional titles as part of our new Digital Sheet Music Library. Teachers will retain access to all current features and tools such as Sight Reading Builder, the Compose app and music sharing abilities, creating classes, sending individualized assignments, creating custom rubrics, tracking student progress in the Gradebook, and sending feedback to students.
Q: What happened to Standard and Premium subscriptions for students? Is Academic Pricing still available?
A: To remove certain restrictions and confusion around our previous Standard and Premium tiers, we are now offering a single subscription tier for students and individual performers—the Performer subscription—which provides complete access to the repertoire library as of April 1st.
Bulk pricing (formerly known as Academic Pricing) will be available to organizations with a minimum of 20 total paid users. Orders that meet this minimum will have the Performer subscription price reduced from $29.99 per user, per year, to $13.99 per user, per year.
Q: How can my school or district qualify for Bulk pricing? What is the discount?
A: A minimum of 20 total subscriptions is required for an order to qualify for Bulk pricing. When the minimum is met, the Performer subscription price is discounted from $29.99 to $13.99 per user, per year.
Q: Does the new Performer subscription tier restrict access to certain titles in the repertoire library?
A: All paid subscriptions now provide users with complete access to the entire repertoire library, including both interactive titles and the new Digital Sheet Music Library. Users will no longer be restricted to assignment-only access as part of the previous Standard subscription tier.
Q: My students have been upgraded from Standard to the new Performer subscription tier. How long will they have this access? Does this include Print?
A: Students who have been upgraded from Standard to the new Performer subscription tier will have full library access through the duration of their current subscription, or through July 31, 2021—whichever provides longer access.
Students who are upgraded on April 1st will also be able to access Print through July 31st, regardless of the subscription end date. If the subscription end date is after August 1st, platforms can purchase an extension for Print access. Please contact our Sales team for more information.
Q: If I purchase the Print add-on and my subscription start date is before its availability on August 1, 2021, will I have to pay the full price for Print?
A: No, if your subscription start date is prior to August 1, a prorated price for the Print add-on will be available. The prorated price will be reflected during the quote request process starting on April 1.
Q: Will SmartMusic still allow student-funded classes in the new subscription structure?
A: Yes. In a student-funded class scenario, students are required to purchase their own Performer subscriptions. Learn more.
Q: My school/district purchased Premium subscriptions after August 1, 2020, but before April 1, 2021. Will my students still have access to Print after August 1, 2021?
A: Premium platforms who purchased their subscriptions after August 1, 2020—and will be up for renewal after August 1, 2021—will need to purchase Print add-ons or an extension in order to retain access to Print through the duration of their subscription. Please contact our Sales team for assistance.
Q: Is there a way for me to purchase subscriptions for my school with a credit card and also take advantage of Bulk pricing?
A: Yes. Upon completion of a quote request, organizations will be able to fulfill payment with a credit card over the phone. A phone number to our Sales department will be provided when the quote is submitted.
Q: What happens if I purchased my subscription(s) in the days or weeks leading up to the price change implementation on April 1, 2021?
A: If you purchased your SmartMusic subscription(s) within the 30 days prior to the new subscription structure and price implementation on April 1st, your subscriptions will automatically update to align with the new subscription tiers, and your payment will be eligible for adjustment. Please contact our Sales or Customer Support team for assistance.
Q: What is Print?
A:Print is a feature that was first introduced in SmartMusic in August 2020 and was made available to Premium platforms at no additional cost for the duration of the 2020-2021 school year. This feature allows users to print individual parts from select titles in the repertoire library, offering the flexibility to continue practice off screen and without internet access.
Q: What is happening to Print access on August 1, 2021?
A:On August 1st, Print will switch from its current, trial phase into a new, paid add-on available for platforms with 20 users or more. The amount of titles available for Print will also be greatly expanding as we introduce thousands of additional titles to the SmartMusic library.
Q: Does the purchase of the Print add-on for my organization mean that my students and I can print any title from the library?
A:While we will be greatly expanding the amount of titles available for Print, not every title will be available for printing, as determined by agreements in place with our consortium of music publishers. Select the “Printable Titles” filter in the library to see the most up-to-date listing of titles available for Print.
Q: I purchased the Print add-on for my platform. How do I allocate Print access to my students?
A:To allocate Print access to students on your platform, visit your Class Details page. Check the box next to each students’ name and select Allocate Print.
To allocate Print access to teachers on your platform, visit the Teachers tab on the Admin page. Check the box next to each teachers’ name and select Allocate Print. Please note that in order for a teacher to be allocated a Print seat, they must also be allocated a paid teacher seat as a prerequisite.
Q: I’m an individual teacher or performer that purchased a single subscription. Can I purchase a single Print add-on?
A:No. Print is currently only offered to platforms that meet the minimum of 20 paid subscriptions. Additionally, for organizations that meet this minimum and wish to purchase the Print add-on, Print must be purchased for a minimum of 20 users.
Q: Can I buy Print subscriptions to cover only a part of my platform/certain classes?
A:Yes, however Print will need to be purchased for a minimum of 20 users on eligible platforms. Additionally, the number of Print Add-ons purchased cannot exceed the total number of subscribers on a platform. (For example, if a platform has 50 paid users, the Print add-on can be purchased at any quantity between 20 and 50.)
Q: What is the Digital Sheet Music Library?
A:All paid SmartMusic users have access to an additional 13,200 titles, offered in a digital sheet music format. These titles will be view-only and not available for assigning or assessment in the Practice App. Some of these new titles will be available for Print, depending on the agreements in place with our consortium of music publishers.
Q: What content will be available in the Digital Sheet Music Library?
A:All paid users have access to our new Digital Sheet Music Library, which offers over 13,200 new pieces. The library will include thousands of choral, band, orchestra, solo and small ensemble titles, as well as several thousand full scores for ensemble titles. Learn more.
Q: How is the Digital Sheet Music Library different from SmartMusic’s existing repertoire library?
A:The Digital Sheet Music Library will offer thousands of new titles in a view-only format. While SmartMusic’s existing repertoire library currently provides thousands of interactive titles available for assigning and immediate feedback/assessment in the Practice App, the titles offered in the Digital Sheet Music Library will not be available for assigning or assessment.
Q: Can I print the titles from the Digital Sheet Music Library? If so, can I print multiple parts at one time?
A:Some titles will be available for Print, depending on the agreements in place with our consortium of music publishers. Select the “Printable Titles” filter in the library to see a listing of the most up-to-date list of titles available for Print.
Based on agreements with our publishing partners, the intention for Print is for users to print the part they need. Copying and distributing the content is not allowed per the copyright laws in place. Therefore, printing multiple parts at a time will not be an option.
Q: Will the titles in the Digital Sheet Music Library include recordings or accompaniment tracks?
A:The titles in the Digital Sheet Music Library will not include recordings or accompaniment tracks.
