SmartMusic on iPad Awarded 2014 SBO Best Tools for Schools

Best Concert Band/Orchestra Teaching Tool at the 2014 NAMM Convention

Minneapolis, MN – January 31, 2014 – MakeMusic was presented with the 2014 School Band and Orchestra Magazine’s Best Tools for Schools award in the category of Best Concert Band/Orchestra Teaching Tool at Winter NAMM in Anaheim, CA.

The annual Winter NAMM Show is the place where musical instrument, music technology, accessory, and other music-related products are debuted to industry insiders. For the fourth consecutive year, educators at the NAMM convention looked for the best products for classroom use in an array of different categories. Using an online voting process and hard-copy ballots from attendees, music teachers made their selections and SmartMusic was named a winner for its iPad application.

MakeMusic released SmartMusic on iPad in April of 2013. The music education app is an extension of the desktop version of SmartMusic and includes quality practice tools, assessment, accompaniment features and assignment capabilities. With a SmartMusic annual subscription, students access SmartMusic’s expansive repertoire library right from the iPad and use it as their primary device for interactive practice, both in the classroom and at home.

MakeMusic Chief Executive Officer, Karen VanDerBosch stated, “We are honored for SmartMusic on iPad to be named a SBO 2014 Best Tool for Schools. We are committed to continued development of software on which teachers can rely, and for devices that students use. SmartMusic on iPad makes it clear that MakeMusic is dedicated to helping improve the future of music education, and we are proud to offer mobile solutions that assist music educators and their students to take on tomorrow.”

The adoption of technology in music education programs around the world is rapidly increasing, and MakeMusic’s suite of products provides the tools necessary to develop and enhance the musical skills of all students.

Special thanks to panelists Dr. Karen Childress-Evans of the San Diego Unified School District, Jamie Knight of Huntington Beach High School’s Academy of the Performing Arts, and SBO columnist Dr. John Kuzmich.
