AMP National Solo Festival

The National Association of Music Parents (AMP) has announced its first AMParents.org National Solo Festival Powered By SmartMusic

“AMP is excited and honored to partner with SmartMusic, one of the leading technology firms in the music industry,” said CEO and President Scott McCormick, “as we produce what is believed to be a first-of-a-kind, online music competition for elementary through high school music students.”

This new “virtual” festival is open to all public, private, and home music students. You can participate from anywhere in the nation, and evaluation is available for those playing woodwind, brass and string instruments, as well as voice. Those wishing to enter the national online contest may do so at http://www.amparents.org/solofestival. Final solo submissions are due no later than Friday, March 15th. The entry fee is $12 per solo and includes a one-year subscription to AMP for the soloist’s parent. Any child of a current AMP member can submit a solo recording, and receive the evaluation for free.

Students can choose from thousands of solo titles currently available in SmartMusic for their performance, and will be placed into one of two divisions: Junior Division (students through 8th grade) and Senior Division (9th – 12th Grade). Students who perform repertoire from their states top level of difficulty (Texas Prescribed Music List in Level 1 or individual state equivalent) are eligible to advance to the National Finals level of the competition. The top three scores from each category in round one of the evaluations, in both the Junior and Senior Divisions, will advance to the National Finals.

Those selected for the National Finals will be asked to submit a video of their solo performance, which will be uploaded to the AMParents.org website and YouTube® for a “popular vote” contest. Video submissions will be due April 10, with online voting open from April 12-28. The National Finalist Awards will be announced Thursday, April 29th, and will share prizes valued at more than $7,500.

This sounds like a fun and innovative way to share your music with the world, and SmartMusic is a proud supporter of this festival. For more information, contact AMP at: info@amparents.org or (888) 740-9305.
