Get Organized with SmartMusic Units

As many of you know, creating an assignment in SmartMusic involves a few simple steps. Once you’ve selected a piece of music, and clicked on the Assignment button within that piece, you specify details (like a minimum tempo or how many points the assignment is worth), offer some instructions, set a due date, and indicate which class (or individual students) you’re sending it to.

Mini Controls in SmartMusic 2011

Today I want to share a feature, new in SmartMusic 2011, that I feel is quite elegant.

Open any piece of music in SmartMusic 2011 and you’ll see the full controls at the top of the screen:

If the piece you’ve opened has on-screen notation, and the music  takes up more than one screen, once you press “Start take,” the controls now look like this:

Then, once the music begins, these “mini-controls” disappear entirely.

SmartMusic Blog: Where a “Cursor” doesn’t use foul language

While SmartMusic 2011 seems to be working great for folks new to SmartMusic, some long-time users have asked me; “How do I turn the cursor off?”

For those of you not familiar with the cursor, it is the green line that shows the beat visually:

In previous versions, the cursor could be turned off via a control panel at the bottom of the screen:

That control panel isn’t at the bottom of the screen in SmartMusic 2011.
