ABOUT EDITION PETERS USA
Edition Peters USA was established in 1948 by Walter Hinrichsen, who named the company C. F. Peters Corporation. Like his older brother Max—who in 1937 had established an Edition Peters office in London—Walter was a surviving member of the family that had owned Germany’s original Edition Peters publishing house, founded in Leipzig in 1800 but seized by the Nazis in the late 1930s. The Peters offices in the U.S., U.K. and Germany operated as separate companies until 2010, when they were at last reunited to form the Edition Peters Group. The Group now has two owners: the Hinrichsen Foundation, a charitable trust for the creation and performance of contemporary classical music, and Walter Hinrichsen’s heirs.
Over the years, Walter Hinrichsen and his successors published works by John Cage, George Crumb, Morton Feldman, Toshiro Mayuzumi, Chou Wen-Chung, Ursula Mamlok, Milton Babbitt, Henry Cowell, Lou Harrison, Alan Hovhaness, Ulysses Kay, Charles Wuorinen, Mario Davidovsky, and more. Today, Edition Peters USA is proud to publish in addition such composers as David Rakowski, Paul Chihara, David Amram, Chinary Ung, Sky Macklay, George Lewis, Marc-André Hamelin, and Ash Fure. The worldwide Edition Peters Group continues to produce beloved, time-tested performing editions, new works by contemporary composers from around the globe, and new urtext editions of the classical canon from today’s leading scholars.
