Music Ed Mentor Podcast #049: Conferences on Your Couch and On-Demand PD

The underlying theme for this week’s very short podcast is innovation, something that we both love and hate in music education. We love to think we’re moving forward, coming up with better ways to do things. We love to try new things and new technology. We like to feel that we are at the forefront. On the other hand, we also love the way things have been done. We became music teachers because of the experience we had in our own music classes as children, and we want to recreate that.

Sometimes we feel that by exploring innovation, we are forsaking what we have always known; that which we have grown to love, that which made us want to be a music teacher to begin with. I’d like to suggest that finding a better way to do something doesn’t mean the old way didn’t work. It just means we are being more proactive in using the tools that we have, the resources that we have, that our predecessors have never had.

The International Music Education Summit begins on Thursday, June 13! While every music ed conference offers so many ways to innovate your teaching, this conference also offers innovations in the way you connect. By removing barriers of time and travel, you are able to interact with remarkable presenters from around the world. You can leverage today’s technology to have an amazing experience, all from the comfort of home.

The International Music Education Summit was created to break down the barriers that can prevent educators from receiving crucial professional development. The 2019 version has even more in store. Check out today’s short podcast to learn more about what this year’s Summit can offer you.
