This month we added 12 new ensemble titles to the SmartMusic Repertoire Library. Included are new pieces for concert band, string orchestra, and choir. View the complete list here.
Also added was an excellent jazz method book titled “The Articulate Jazz Musician.” This medium-difficulty level method supports standard jazz band instruments as well as flute, clarinet, and tuba.
The Articulate Jazz Musician
Award-winning jazz educator Caleb Chapman and multiple GRAMMY® Award-winning saxophonist Jeff Coffin have collaborated to create a highly-effective approach to jazz articulation. “The Articulate Jazz Musician” details Caleb’s proven approach for mastering the fundamentals of jazz articulation, phrasing, and interpretation. The play-along tracks are designed for C, B-flat, E-flat, and bass clef instruments. Rhythm section instruments can use the play-along tracks as a “how to play it” reference. These tracks feature world-class performances by Jeff Coffin (tenor saxophone), Victor Wooten (bass), Roy “Futureman” Wooten (drums), and Chris Walters (piano). This method makes approaching jazz articulation easy and fun. Students will enjoy following the explanations, listening, playing along, and practicing what they’ve heard. Before they know it, they too will be articulate jazz musicians.
